About this Idea

Social spaces in buildings often go underused because of where they are placed—green spaces on roofs or party rooms on the 11th floor are out of the sightline of most residents. One strategy for overcoming this is to make corridors more ‘social’ by providing flexible seating to encourage casual conversation. Place chairs or other welcoming furniture near elevator landings, in hallways or near entryways, to give residents a place to have a chat and get to know one’s neighbours.
